Product recommendations

Overview

Proactive Chat lets you start conversations with customers before they ask — and one of the most effective ways to use it is by recommending products they're likely to love. You can now recommend products from an entire collection, not just a manually curated list. This means your proactive messages can stay fresh, relevant, and accurate without constant manual updates.

Recommend products by collection

Instead of picking individual products one by one, you can now point Proactive Chat at a collection — and it will automatically recommend products from that collection to customers.

This is especially useful for:

  • Seasonal collections that change regularly
  • New arrivals you update frequently
  • Category-specific promotions (e.g. "Summer Sale" or "Best in Footwear")

How to set up collection-based recommendations

  1. Go to Proactive Chat in the Chatty dashboard.
  2. Open an existing campaign or click Create new campaign.
  3. In the Product Recommendation section, select Recommend by collection.
  4. Choose the collection you want to feature.
  5. Save and activate the campaign.

Chatty will randomly pick products from the selected collection to recommend — so customers see variety, and you don't have to touch the setup every time your inventory changes.

If a collection is empty or all its products are out of stock, no product recommendation will be shown for that campaign.

Tips

  • Use collection-based recommendations for evergreen campaigns — "Best Sellers", "New Arrivals", or seasonal collections — so the recommendations stay accurate without manual updates.
  • For curated campaigns (e.g. a specific product launch), use the manual product selection option instead.
  • Check that your collections are kept up to date in Shopify — Proactive Chat pulls products directly from the collection you select.
